This year, our biggest project has been creating a small outdoor craft space—a cosy retreat right in our garden. After plenty of research, we decided on the 12×6 Pent Summerhouse from PowerSheds.

To make sure it’s comfortable year-round, my husband and father-in-law spent some time insulating it. We used insulation from B&Q, lined it with 12mm MDF boards, then patched, smoothed, and painted it in Lick’s Pink 6 for a soft, inviting feel. The exterior is finished in Cuprinol’s Urban Slate, and the flooring—an absolute bargain from B&Q—ties it all together beautifully.

In the midst of a busy, often chaotic life, having a quiet space to retreat to has become more important than ever. Between work, family life, and everything in between, it’s easy to forget to slow down. This little spot gives me a chance to step away, reset, and enjoy simple, mindful moments—whether that’s with a book, a craft project, or just sitting with a cup of tea, listening to the birds. It’s a reminder that even when things feel the busiest, it’s always important to stop and take a breath.

As many of you know, our two little ones have Type 1 Diabetes, which can be incredibly tough at times. This little space has quickly become a haven for me—a quiet, cosy spot where I can unwind and enjoy the garden in every season. I love watching the light shift throughout the day and can already imagine how magical it will be as the seasons change… all while staying toasty inside!

I’m not entirely sure what its main purpose will be just yet, but so far, it’s been a space for sewing, knitting, cross-stitching, sorting seeds, potting houseplants, reading, and listening to the radio. The kids have also hijacked it a couple of times to play Minecraft and blast their music (fair enough!). Right now, I’m working on a DIY drying rack for herbs because I think it’ll be the perfect spot for that. Homegrown mint tea all year round? Yes, please!

*Although we planned to buy this summerhouse regardless of the cost, PowerSheds kindly offered us a small discount in exchange for sharing photos of our new space, which we planned to do anyway! They really are a fantastic company and the quality of the summerhouse is excellent.
